Well they've had about 20 top ten hits, so they were doing something right for some people at least.
If music was already bad enough, then the addition of Girls Aloud to the mix will make no difference surely..?
I really liked some of their stuff- particularly Sounds of The Underground, Love Machine, Call the Shots, Biology and Promises.

When I first heard Sounds of The Underground though i was convinced I'd heard it before- a sixties track I think- but I just can't put my finger on what it was.
They have made some catchy tunes, I agree
The talent, though, was with the writers, musicians and producers rather than the girls who were attractive, could just about sing and could dance and pout reasonably well
Simon Cowell !
this, surely, is the "sound of the underground".......

some people must like them, i am not one of them.
I think "they didn't write the songs or play any of the instruments" is often a false argument - there have been plenty of entertaining singers and groups that's also true of, and it also willfully misunderstands that pop music is often all about the overall package. As it happens, their names do appear in some of the writing credits. Not much, admittedly.

They've had some very good catchy hits - I still think Call The Shots is one of the classiest hits of recent years - but that's not solely down to the writers, musicians and producers; people might think "Oh, anyone could've sung those" but it wasn't anyone, it was that particular group, and that's what helps to make up that specific package. And it's worked pretty well so far.
Just ignore them, I do.
Bob the Builder and Mr Blobby got to No1....they are fantastic in comparison.
I think Backdrifter makes the relavent points - again.

Pop is disposable forthy for-the-moment entertainment, no-one is suggesting that it is down for the kong haul.

Any music has to be judged in context in order to make a valid judgement of its worth.

As a pop act, GA are pretty much the top of their game - their compositions, arrangements, and yes delivery, are all top notch, and to not like or enjoy it does not detract from the skill involved in delivering their highly successful music into a market that is arguably the most competative and over-subscribed there is.

Being angels in human form helps as well of course!!!!!!
Thanks for reminding me about Sound of The Underground. I've just contributed to keeping them going by downloading it. It's a good song.
