I only started buying stuff from the internet about 6 months ago, and have so far ordered about 20 items, of which I didn't receive 3. Is this par for the course when it comes to internet shopping?

I've never failed to receive something I ordered - apart from one thing which was out of stock but the company emailed me straight away.
I have been internet shopping for years (at least 7) and have only ever had two 'no show' orders in all that time.
never had a problem, are you using reputable companies?
I've ordered loads of things from various sites and everything's turned up. What sellers didn't arrive?
No, not at all arti, I've never had a no-show. Are you buying from reputable sites?
Same here - never had an item not arrive. But I wonder if it depends on the types of sites you are choosing to buy from? Remember, too good to be true probably means it ain't true.
I've been using t'internet to shop for quite a few years - never had a problem, but just recently got ripped by a big company on ebay :(
I hope you complained to eBay, halifaxmum....
You should get everything you buy unless lost in post which is rare. I had 3 buyers over several years say they did not receive goods. Two of which I believed and one I did not. All on eBay and all refunded by me. I don't think I ever didn't get something on any site.
i did boxy - it's currently going through a paypal dispute, but i was so disappointed as their positive feedback is in the 100,000s...
It's pathetic if you're ordering from reputable sites such as Amazon (particularly if you stick to Amazon itself, rather than Amazon Marketplace). 3 missing items out of 5000 might be a realistic figure when ordering from such websites (with some of those being the fault of the Post Office, rather than the sellers).

If you're ordering from eBay, it's still very poor. Probably fewer than 1% of Ebay purchases fail to arrive.

However if you've been ordering from sources in China, or from obscure websites which you've not checked up on beforehand, it might be quite a good success ratio!

Wow, thanks for all the replies. I'm gladdened to hear your 'reviews'. I've only ever used reputable sites....well, there was that one site that sold certain 'aids', but let's not go into that.... The three items that never arrived were all ordered from that site that has the name of a long river. I don't think it's any reflection on that site. I suspect that the items were undelivered rather than not-despatched.
You are unlucky then as I have bought and sold much on amazon and never didn't receive or had something I sent go astray.
Did you get them from Amazon or from the Marketplace? I've never had any problems with Amazon and i've been buying from them for years... Have you contacted them?
I love amazon, have bought many things from them. No probs with delivery, usually a couple of days. When I bought in error and sent back my account was credited the next day. Will continue to buy from then
Like most other AB members I have never had a problem with Amazon or 99% of internet purchases. It may be your postman needs to visiit Specsavers. We once received an Amazon parcel addressed to a totally different road. Suggest you complain to the Post Office.
Headbanger - I often get other peoples post which I hand deliver if nearby or put back in post if miles away. Got something delivered to me once with sarcastic comment from first place it was taken to!
Maybe arti's postie is the problem.
In the words of Eliza Doolittle maybe 'someone pinched it'
Grasscarp. I do the same. I must admit I have written the occasional sarcastic comment myself.
