Here's what our top stars sound like when their voice autotune software packs in ...

And that's why, if you want to hear good music, you should go to the pub, buy a bottle of wine, listen to the person singing in the corner, and buy the CD they are selling from inside their guitar case.

I've only ever done that once, well not from a pub, a band busking in Liverpool, they were actually a Spanish band called Ligula, they were selling a 4 track EP, the songs aren't bad at all!
This post reminds me of Bill Bailey taking the pish out of U2 by playing what they sound like without the reverb!

Oh, I've got loads and loads of CDs that I've bought in pubs, or from people playing in the street.

I love having them on when people are round, because you can say "Yeah, these are the guys who were playing in The Mesmerist last week".
didn't sound that out of the ordinary?
at least she wasn't miming,
I always buy a CD from an act in the pub if they're even half-decent, especially if they haven't charged on the door...
Question Author
Exactly.

It wasn't "out of the ordinary".

It was "ordinary".

It was not ... multimillionairess pop superstar.

It was just ... ordinary.

If I want to hear ordinary, I can go to the karaoke bar next door to Jamie's Italian. At least then, I can walk home.
I'd have to draw the line with this lot, though...

Mark ... it's great, isn't it, to hear someone live in a small place, and then take their music home with you.

They're not getting paid millions to stand on stage and sing into an autotuner. They are hard working musicians, trying to make a bit of a living, who make your visit to the pub more enjoyable. The least you can do is give them a few quid for a CD.
You have to get booed out of a lot of pubs before you can claim to have learnt your trade properly and are polished enough to be a real group musician. :-)
It certainly is, JJ. And from the other side of the business, it's always an absolute pleasure when someone comes up after a gig to say that they've had a good night out and have enjoyed the music.

This girl does a lot of pubs around here at lunch time, and sings in the square outside The Sussex pub.

She's from Denmark, but she lives locally.

That is filmed in the square outside The Sussex. So you can sit outside the pub, and listen to these guys. That's GOT to be worth a CD!
Her music's a bit too dark and quiet for me, JJ... ;-)

Thanks for posting that vid of the band outside The Sussex, JJ. Superb musicians ............ for free ........ outside a pub......... :o))))

I play quite a few pub gigs with my quartet. It always amazes me how people of all ages and musical tastes seem to enjoy live playing so much.
Question Author
Good for you, Builder.

I just love it.

As you say ... for free! (although you should give something).

I always go up and give something straight away ... not at the end.

I always give at least a fiver, if I've got one.

I buy a CD if they are, ask Mark says, half decent.

If everyone does the same, we will keep on getting great musicians playing outside our pubs.

Hang on ... there's another brilliant local pub band I want to find for you ...
Question Author
Okay, here we are.

This is not filmed outside a pub, but these guys are always somewhere in The Lanes at lunch times.

Picture it ... standing in or outside the pub, with a bottle of wine, listening to this.

That's what pubs, and music, should be all about.

The guitarist is superb! The violinist not so much...
