Hi Emma G 1650, I bet you have more than you think ..... OK what I would class as basic items are things and colours that suit you. Do you have some good friends that can shop with you and be honest with you about what you look good in? As for ideas about trends, they are everywhere, magazines, what other people are wearing and shop windows give you a pretty good idea on what's in fashion at the moment, ask sales assistants as well, some are really helpful. I beleive that Top Shop do a free personal shopper service (a great shop to start in) Also consider having your colours done, www.houseofcolour.com believe me, that will help you put items together much more easily and also stops you wasting money on items that really don't suit you. Hope that helps and good luck!
A great pair of jeans is worth investing in then you can either dress them down for daytime with a t-shirt and trainers etc or dress them up to go out for a drink etc with a gorgous top and nice pair of heels!
You needn't pay too much - places like River Island have fab jeans for around 40 a pair.
A nice belt and some cheap bits of jewellery to add finishing touches (beads etc) are essential in my wardrobe too!!!
you know what i am absolutly terrible at putting clothes together too i'm not one of them people who can just throw aload of mismatched items together and make it look fabulous, i just can't. i wouldn't know where to start i'd look like a cyndi lauper wannabe gone VERY badly wrong.

just wanted to wish you luck :)

Hi, I work as a style advisor and i think for this autumn/winter, u definately need a good pair of jeans you can dress up or down, a pair of boots, and good knitwear such as the new tunics. (they can hide all lumps and bumps due to their shape and can be dressed up or down with a belt).

hey there- skinny jeans are high fashion at the moment or even some casual combats with a nice hoody or v-neck jumper with a gillet over the top! its a nice casual smart outfit for a coldish day! i hope this helps x
some fantastic cheapish fashion shops are: topshop, river island, warehouse, jane norman etc
Also I get some ideas from the mannequins in the window. I've quite often bought a whole outfit from the same place because of those dammed mannequins!
