Has anyone any suggestions what I can get my nephew for his 3rd birthday? his parents have said no toys please (and he's not allowed a pet) I named a star for him when he was born, he's lots of clothes, and I'd rather not give cash, or vouchers, I have considered an oxfam gift, but not sure he'd understand it, he's bilingual!

How about a large map of the world that he can have on his bedroom wall, I used to have one when small and used to lie in bed and gaze at it for hours. He might be a little young but they are very colourful and it will be interesting for many years to come.
maybe a share in a stock or a government bond. i invested 100. in government bonds for my neice when she was born. hopefully she will have a nice chunk by the time she retires. she is only 2, a long time for the money to grow.
how about "adopting" an animal.I did this for my son years ago with the WWF - it was a monkey, and he used to get a newsletter, photo etc and he loved it!

oh I should of added I want to spend around 20, and as I live 250 miles away it would be sent I think

How about a story or nursery rhyme CD?

Bible

Moneybox

Jigsaw puzzles

If you decided on something big or would be expensive to post, you could always send the parents the money & ask them to buy it where they live. Send the gift card & then it`ll be from you. I`ve done that & no offence was taken It also means that with no postge to pay, you can spend a bit more.
What 2 languages doers he speak???

welsh and english, and they live in the hills, so they have the bare minimum shops near by!!

AHHHHH!!!

I got him a drum kit for Xmas which was popular with him, my brother is now talking to me again!! I'm also planning on getting him a guniea pig for Xmas if my brothers wife lets me ... I have a feeling she won't!

Cutlery engraved with his name.
Some drawing/painting stuff.
A music or story CD.
Nice plate/bowl/mug set.
Books.

By the way, I would not let anyone get my child a pet as a gift.
That's up to the parents to decide!

How about some pre-school books that help with writing? I got a couple for my 3 year old the other day in Ottakars, they have a good selection of various types - numbers, letters etc. Some have gold stars for encouraging and another is with chalks which is great as he can do it over and over. He loves it.

You could also get one of those 'personalised' books, where your nephew appears in the story - here's a link for one site, but there are lots more if you google it. http://www.nameinabook.co.uk/book_titles.html

My son also likes the Magnetix and K'Nex sets which are partly toy, partly educational - don't know if this would be allowed under the toys rule!?!

If you collect Tesco clubcard vouchers, you could send away for tickets for him and his parents to go to a place near them (I don't know where!). I know you can get vouchers for Legoland, Alton Towers, those kinds of places - and at a quarter of the price.

Have fun choosing something!

If you want to stick with the space idea - how about a plot on the moon. Check out this guy ,he was on the big breakfast years ago and I put it in favourites, as a standby gift solution.

Just seen this on someone else's question - I know my 3 year old would love it - grow your own butterflies!
