First of all a merry christmas and a happy new year to ABers every where. Now secondly have the Boss and I missed something? After walking Max, the Boss who was making one of her rare early morning appearences suggested we swung by Tesco to pick up some extra eggs, bacon and bread and what did we find? No trolleys, no baskets and half the shelves empty and the aisles full of people with trolleys stuffed with enough food to feed small third world country for a week. This was 08.30 have we missed a major storm warning or somethng?

yep
well the shops are shut for 2 days and so it's a case of siege mentality.
Bad innit?

Was bloody mental at work yesterday, and we're only shut for one day. Worst thing was ,we've no cigs either (due to the robbery I mentioned on Sunday night) and you'd think their world had caved in.

Silly sods.
As noddy sang (screamed?) IT'S CHRISTMAS!!! And peoples ability to rationalise goes up the chimney.
No just people being greedy, you can only eat one dinner at a time,
Most of the food will end up in the rubbish tip.
Lol...happens every year.

I would never attempt Tesco over the Christmas period again. Went to Sainsburys the day before yesterday. Shelves well stocked and not busy at all.
oooo were you robbed B00 I didn't hear about that, BTW, I;ve got some 25g golden virginia and green rizzlas going cheap if you're interested lol
I did bag packing on tuesday and that was busy. I think the shops like us being there though as we get people through the checkouts quicker.
lmao, where did you get 'em dotty? ;-)

Actually if you're serious and you really do have some ,then yes i'd be interested.

Yeah we were robbed on Sunday night.

You can choose from the following:

A) They all forgot it was Christmas and need to feed the entire family.

B) No forward planning

C) They do exactly the same every year so the can go home and complain "theres nothing left in the shops" and moan about all the people.

D) Wonder what the hell they were doing.
I think most people are still under the misapprehension that the shops close for the best part of a week and that if Christmas isn't absolutely, 100% perfect (materially, at least) down to literally the last mince pie.

We did our shop yesterday down at the local Aldi, then nipped round to Bargain Booze for the alcoholic stuff. Realised this morning we'd forgotten the pork pie, but the corner shop Co-Op had some in, so that's that sorted.

No fuss, no supermarket stress, no trying to please everyone else and no pigging out until we make ourselves ill. Sounds good to me.

I know people tend to entertain more this time of the year and even the boss has more stuff in then usual but a lot of it is the sort of stuff we'd have in anyway just a bit more of it. As oscarina says you know a lot of the stuff will just be wasted, still I don't suppose Tesco & Co will complain
Sorry, I haven't been drinking (yet). What I meant to say was:

'... if Christmas isn't absolutely, 100% perfect (materially, at least) down to literally the last mince pie ... then it's completely ruined'.

Dotty, where do you live? I've seen signs and ads in a lot of 'big' shops around here advertising Boxing Day opening.

saxy the asdas here is closed but i think the tescos is too, we live near\ preston
Our local Tesco (a main one) is open 10.00 - 4.00 on Boxing Day! Same with the local Sainsburys (not a superstore, but long established and very busy) and Asda.

We do have a very big Asian population here, though, to whom Christmas is no more special than Diwali is to us, so that's probably the main reason the stores will be open. God forbid any of them should lose any trade just because it's a holiday!
