Hi , our comp has a router and we also get an internet connection via it for two laptops. We have been told we should protect our router to stop other people using it and "listening in" and compromising the info on our comp's. BUT we haven't a clue how to do this , so, how do we do this? Cheers, Chris

Make sure that you have a password on the wifi settings.

You'll need to access the admin features of the router, so its best to use a cable if you're going to be changing wireless settings.

You haven't specified what router you have, so I suggest you google it and find out how to access the admin settings.
try typing any of the following into your address bar, one of them should call up the admin screen of the router (you will, of course need to enter the admin user name and password), then you can select wireless security and set up a key. You should also be able to get there by clicking the links:

Thank you both. Chris
Its not possible for someone to "listen in" to your computers, if they access your router. It just means that they will get access to the 'net via your router.

As the previous ABers have suggested, put a password lock on your router.
Not sure how you got to this stage without a password though ?
