I have been watching the dev diaries on MP and am stunned at how precise the surroundings need to be for it to function properly.

Not sure the leaked manual is genuine but you need to stand a minimum of 6ft away from the Kinect sensor which in itself needs to be ideally more than 2 ft off the ground. It should be well ventilated (RROD anyone?!) and if your tv speakers are at the base of your tv it shouldnt be positioned there.
My particular favourite is your clothing choice which must contrast with your background and be tight fitting.

When this was first announced I was genuinely interested as it sounded incredible but the more that was leaked the more it become apparent that yet again MS are looking after the US market with their larger living spaces.
They have hung their hat on this being an incredibly popular product which it may well still prove to be but I wonder how many people will be returning theirs immediately after purchase when they realise that they do not have the space available?

I'd definitely get an assurance that I can return it if it wasn't suitable for my living room before handing any money over now!

I reckon I'd need to stand on my sofa to get 8foot away from the TV!
What do you even mean RROD anyone, everything needs to be well ventilated or its overheats, duh.

You cant expect miracle technology. It's just saying the ideal specifications, trying to help you enhance your kinect experience, obviously you can go against them, but it may not be as accurate. Obviously they have already identified their target market, as this is a game for the family it is assumed that it will be played in the living room.

The camera tracks movement, obviously it needs things to distinguish you from the background short of you being chroma keyed in. So its not asking much of you to wear clothing that doesnt make you blend in.

You expect too much of technology.
Well that's a bit of a disappointment - eldest son is going to be well hacked off!

Mantessa, I dont expect 'miracle' or too much of technology but I do expect it to function properly.
Also I dont consider my living room to be small, maybe just average but standing 6ft away from the tv puts me in a corner where there is insufficient room for one person to move let alone two.
...and 'duh' (very mature btw) given the 360's chequered history with overheating i think this was a perfectly reasonable thing to point out.
