Ok so watched my favourite film of all time last night (Aliens!) and they go toa planent that they have put a processor on to make the atmosphere habitable by humans.

Is this complete fiction and is there any idea how this could even be possible?
is it something scientists have given any serious thought to?

by Processor do you mean the whole site where the humans lived? Yes that's done all the time for space craft, no reason why it could not happen on another planet ro indeed the moon.

No R1 its actually outisde as well! They could walk about on an alien planet and breathe the 'processed air' not sure if it covered the whole planet or just a part of it but either way it would be incredible!! (am off to read that wiki link now cheers count)
There is actual a theory to terraform Mars - if and when we get there.

I am not sure how realistic that is but NASA seem to think it is at least plausable.
