Ok... I look at a hole as being something I can look through or see through. Like a hole in a peice of papper, or a hole through a table. If you were to dig a "hole" in sand, I think that would be clasified as a crater or ditch, wouldn't it? I'm just a little confused on what makes a hole... a hole. Can u help me?

Thanx

Yes it is a hole. A hole does not necessarilly need to be a through hole. You can drill a blind hole in a solid by going only part way through. A lot of tapped holes are also blind. I guess a hole is something that you can fill with something else, whether its though or blind.
In Old English 'hol' meant 'a hollow place', so there never was any necessity for it to be an aperture or perforation such as you suggest.
