Why do the space suits of astronauts have a metallic coating?

Suits are usually white, at least real ones are. I've seen silver ones in films and tv shows tho! The real ones are made from kevlar which is a bullet proof material. Probably white to deflect heat from direct sunlight? If there are silver ones in real use, perhaps the same reason. 
Kevlar is only as bullet proof as any other material when its thick enough.  A single sheet of kevlar won't stop a bullet.
also to try and stop tiny little asteroids, travelling at high velocities (speed with direction). That's why there is a lot of layers as well!
As mentioned to reflect heat from the sun - there is no atmosphere in space so it's more severe.  The metallic might also protect against radiation/particle rays?
Well, its obviouse. :) To protect them from the outer side of earth. u know?
