Dairy Codes

Does anyone know of a website where I can find details of the packer of a pre-packed block of cheddar cheese? I'm thinking of the little elliptical shape that is on the reverse of most dairy products that has the codes "UK" and "EC" along with another code across the centre that reads "VK200" etc. I'm sure I've read that the centre code is exclusive to a manufacturer or packer.
What are these codes called and can I check one out online?

Thanks

Why would anyone want to do such a nerdy thing?

Would "to find out the origin of a product" suit you? In my case, I have a very good reason for doing so.
