I am surprised one of our resident experts has not given you a full answer yet. Until then you'll just have to do with a lay answer.

Hydrochloric acid is essential in the stomach to aid digestion and extract proteins and vitamins etc from the food. It also destroys harmful bacteria ingested with food/drink.
If you have a low gastric acid you will probably become very sick.
Did you want to know what happens if hydrochloric acid penetrates the stomach lining? If so then the answer is a stomach ulcer.
It's difficult to tell exactly what dmc94 is asking. I suggest that if he/she wants an accurate answer, then he/she should re-phrase the question.
I agree with the prof; I don't understand the question. For a start why the 'If'?
