Isn't infinity never ending by definition?
Question Author
Turn to bbc2 .Apparently man cannot determine how big infinity is due to his finite mind.
If you can add infinity plus 1 , then why cant yiou add infinity to infinity ?
And in the same respect if you can have infinity less 1 then what if you have infinity minus infinity?what do you then have ?

My heads hurting listening to this
That doesn't make sense. Infinity means never ending, I don't see how he can even try to determines something that cannot be determined.
It is infinitely big - which means it is as big as you like, and then it is still bigger than that.
I think infinity is 8, but lying on its side.

infinity minus infinity means the sun has gone out and you can't see owt

If the sun goes out, not seeing anything will be the least of our worries, we'd freeze to death in about 5 minutes!

he discovered cardinal numbers .
Part of his theory is that between each number there are an infinite amount of numbers also.

to further and further decimal places .

ask Buzz lightyear, he's been there, and beyond.

Seriously Cantor didn't so much say that he had found a size for infinity but more that some things are more infinite than others and they can be an infinity of infinities.

Oooo am I missing family guy..

Thats more like it... philosophical mathematics baffles me too

There are many ways infinity can catch our imagination. Everyone has wondered if the universe is infinite, for instance. It is an easy mistake to conclude that it must be, reasoning that if it wasn't then it would have to have a boundary, and then what would be on the other side? The answer to this is that the universe may be like a sphere. The surface of a sphere doesn't have a boundary, but it is certainly finite in area. (The universe, in other words, could be like a three-dimensional surface of a sphere which can be imagined as existing in four-dimensional space most cosmologists think it may well be something like that.) Another common line of thought runs like this: if the universe is infinite, then it must have an infinite number of planets, and therefore a planet just like this one except that everyone is bald (or talks backwards, or what have you).

I think we just accept infinity and dont question it becasue a siv ediscovered watching this programme my head is buzzzing and im starting to struggle with it now.
