Assuming that atmospheric pressure is 100 kPa, estimate a value for the (crushing) force on the average-sized human body due to air pressure.

Approximately 25fpi
Say 6 feet tall, 2 feet wide about 2/3 of it as surface area say 18 square feet (it's only an estimate). Then 18x144x14.7/2240 gives about 17 tons.

(assuming that 100 kPa is the same as 14.7 lbs/sq. in.)
