Why does pastry go all horrible and soggy when it's placed in the microwave?

The steam given off when cooking in the microwave makes the pastry go soggy and wet.

A normal oven gets much hotter and steam is not an issue.

Thankyou, I did'nt think it would be something so straight forward. A forune beckons for the person who can solve this problem. I thought it would be something to do with radiation or the micro waves themselves.
I used to put pasty in the microwave in a tub with kitchen tissue to absorb some of the moisture. It wasn't amazing, but it did help a bit.

Nah, pasties and microwaves just don't mix the only thing you can get away with in a microwave is a sausage roll you can't kill a sausage roll.
