A scalar value has magnitude onle, as opposed to a vector quantity which has bot magnitude and direction.

eg
30 mph is a scalar quantity
15 metres per second due east is a vector quantity.

Those examples might not be the best.

the classic ones are speed - scalar quantity against velocity a vector one.

Weight a vector quantity against mass, a scalar one.
