the title is : Comment on using silicon nitride for car engines, is it suitable, if no, suggest alternatives

I seem to remember that a process called "nitriding" can be carried out on the moving (frictional) surfaces of an engine. The benefits are that this process creates a very hard surface that is resistant to wear and has high fatigue strength. I recall that ammonia was used for this but perhaps there are now techniques that use silicon nitride.
