baseflow index

Hello all,

I know what baseflow is, howewver can anyone explain what the baseflow index is (and how it is calculated)

Links to sites or papers could be very helpful.

Since I'm more of a groundwater guy, I was unfamiliar with this term, but I looked it up and apparently it is the ratio of base flow to the mean annual stream flow. I hope this helps.
