going to the moon again 2018

how comes its going to take them over 10 years (2018 i think, could be wrong) with todays technology, so how long did it take the first time, from palnning the trip, in the 60's, does it sound strange that it is taking them longer, if it is,

The original moon missions were planned in the late 50's and announced by JFK in his inaugral speech in 1960, with the statement that America would have a man on the mon by the end of the decade. They acheived this with 41/2 months to spare!
Having been there & done it, NASA has concentrated its resources, which in recent American governments have had it's budget reduced every term, on the shuttle & new space station.
However, NASA now beieves with the shuttle being replaced, that the time is right to set out new lunar missions, which if successful will lead to Mars missions by 2030
Been there, done that , , , that's what I was thinking.

Space is still a dangerous and costly place.

Apollo 13, how lucky was that!
