I believe it is possible, but how? I presume you can't put them in a standard charger?

Officially no but years ago my mum used to put them in the oven and we did get more usage out of them. Highly dangerous but then again my mum used all sorts of tricks like that!

You can buy a special charger. It uses a chip to control the flow of electricity into the batteries. You can recharge a set of batteries two or three times and then you have to throw them away and each time they dont last as long as a brand new set.

DO NOT put non rechargable batteries in to an ordinary battery charger they can explode

They CAN explode yes but if you are very careful and only charge them for 10 minutes or so at a time then they are fine. They explode when they get too hot.

You know those lights that people put in their gardens? Little ones with solar panels that then glow at night? They have a recharge circuit in them, you can use them to slowly recharge batteries...rechargeable and non rechargeable...but again, without specialist equipment they can go bang if they get too hot.
