****** off to 'Body and Soul'.
as this is in the science section, I gather this is leading to a 'How can you believe in (christian) God / the Bible whilst adhering to certain principles of science' type debate?

When I was a kid, they made me a cristian.
Then I realized they had no clue whatsoever about what god is, what god wants, and whether their bible is truth or fantasy. They just pretend to know, because they were brought up by people who pretended to know.

The simple answer is no - if you want to debate further, feel free to re-post.
I am a christian and I'm proud to be one. Believing in Jesus Christ and accepting him as my Lord and Saviour has changed my life for the better. I have peace, hope and joy that transcends all externalities. The normal day to day challenges and problems are still there, but God has provided me with strength, grace and wisdom to go through each day successfully. I am glad I found Jesus. I recommend that you try him too! He will fill the void and the craving of your soul. Nothing else will.
On the other hand, Snickers do much the same thing.
Fabulous Waldo! That's being filed in my bulging "I wish I'd said that!" box for future use.

Well, I don't want this to develop into a full blown argument, but I have to fundamentally disagree. To begin with, bits of the peanuts in Snickers get trapped in your gums. Secondly, they leave you feeling full for about 3 hours. Thirdly, mankind is unable to formally identify the whitish substance that forms the bulk of the Snickers.

You are perfectly entitled to your belief, although I would contend that you only hold it because your parents fed you snickers from a young age. I am much more of a Fruit and Nut man myself, but I'm prepared to meet you half way if you deep fry said Snickers.

Does heaven have an Answerbank equivalent?
Well Marge, if you're going to argue on that basis, I would have to say that Communion Wafers are considerably less satisfying but can also get stuck in the teeth. And there's no cannibalism going on with a Snickers.

is anyone here?

Surely that's the question that needs to be answered!

Yes Waldo, but at least you can eat them between meals without ruining your appetite. No wait. Maybe I'm getting mixed up here.

My sister is a practicing catholic, and was telling me that pre communion the priest politely requests that no drunks come for communion simply with the intention of finishing off the wine.

For real...

Hey roja. I'm not a christian. Will I go to hell forever and ever?

I think you probably will - see you there

(sooner than you think    heh heh heh heh)

the true way to enlightenment is aceeeeeeed

hmm. I'm afraid people who believe in a god/s are those who just can't cope with reality.

This is not a science related topic.

I am a devout Catholic and I go to church every Sunday. I know there is a God because: (a) There have been countless miracles occuring over the centuries, such as Padre Pio's gift of bi-location and the fact that the bodies of one or two of the saints have never rotted after they've died. (b) Answers to prayers. (c) The revalation of God through the Scripture. (d) The miraculous gift of Faith God has given me. If you don't have the gift of Faith, you must pray for it. Let God come in to your life.
