It is a material in which two or more metals are combined directly in furnace (ie not just rammed against each other).
An alloy is a mix of two or more metals (normally).  They don't react to form a new compound, but they combine so the alloy reacts or has different attributes to any of the constituent elements.
for example, brass and steel are alloys.
sorry brain failure I meant stainless steel of course! doh!
An alloy is a mixture of metals or of metal(s) and non-metal(s). Loosehead, "normal" steel is an alloy of iron and carbon.
I know gef that's why I corrected it, did you read all the posts??
Sorry loosehead but you have got me puzzled now. It seemed that you were saying that stainless steel was an alloy but steel wasn't or am I missing something?
