Is it worth the risk of using the ordinary limewire. I have heard that some people get ridiculous fines for using it. I used to have the software installed on my computer but deleted it after hearing they were really cracking down on users. I want to buy the Pro version but can't find out how much it costs (the price is in dollars). If anyone could tell me I would be very grateful!

the price is 10.24 (thats what the $18.88 dollars converted to) i still use the free version, i dont believe getting pro makes it any more legal or illegal though (i may be wrong) as far as i believe paying for pro just give you priority downloads with "faster speeds" i may be wrong on this but generally speaking if they were going to have a majoy crack down they would just close the site down? so you wouldnt be able to download moves/audio files?

Also it is not limewire itself that is illegal its the content so i wouldnt worry about having limewire software installed its more of what you download via the software!

Hope that helps!

The price on one site is just under 11 with a special offer down to $17.95 or just under 10.

The use of Limewire is in itself not illegal. Downloading copyrighted music without paying for it is however a civil offence. So even using the Pro version of Limewire and downloading copyrighted material could theoretically still end up with you being taken to court.

The chances of that happening however are incredibly remote, as there are millions of people illegally sharing files accross the globe, and the relavent bodies can't take them all to court.

If you want to have piece of mind use a legit paid-for download service like i-Tunes, Napster, Wippett or emusic.com.

Prices are typically around 79p per track in the UK. And tracks are protected to stop them being copied to other machines or sometimes onto CD, which is a pain.

The other option is to use www.allofmp3.com. You pay by the Mb downloaded and prices are typically between 1p and 7p per track.

The site is based in Russia and uses the fact that electonic downloads are not covered by copyright law in the same way as CD's. Although the site does state that it does hand over royalties to the Artists involved.

I was initially very sceptical of them, as they were in Russia. But I've used them for well over a year, and nothing un-toward has been deducted from my account and the site is very professional.

And as you are downloading directly from them and not using file-sharing software like Limewire, there is no way the RIAA or BPI will be able to prosecute you. As there is know way they can tell what you've downloaded.

I paid 8.00 to download an album from i-Tunes and it won't even let me burn it to CD. Had I bought it from allofmp3.com it would have cost 75p and I could play it wherever I like.

The choice is yours.
Other services are so hard to install and get running. But Kazaa Platinum just works and keep on going on and on, try it http://www.kazaa-platinum.com
The worst problem I usually have when I download movies/music from the Internet is that in many cases it simply DOESNT WORK... I wait for hours till each movie/music is downloaded (I got a slow Internet connection) and when it finally do... I get an error... ERR so annoying... Thanks to Kazaa Platinums tech support I was able to fix all errors I had and I am watching movies without problems. http://www.kazaa-platinum.com
