This is just a silly theoretical question....
But saying its exactly Earth like and we are going to colonise it(yes we can make it but no fuel on board to get back)

And we can take say....a few 1000 people. What else would we need to bring to get started on a new planet? I'm assuming there will be edible stuff there so what technology, infrastructure would we bring o board to give us the best start possible?(i know theres a lot of ifs and buts, but just use your imaginantion giant spaceship, 1 way trip, what do we need?)

I think you'll need a warp-drive along with some di-lithium crystals.
And what happens if the far superior civilization already existing there just throw us a few baubles, beads, bottles of whiskey, and shepherd us off to reservations?

We are British !!
Stewey is only a subject of ours.
I figured the idea that latest tech wouldn't be needed nor useful (think maintenance) was serious. Survival skills, yes, good point, training would be needed. But even medicines can go off en route and not easily manufactured once there.

I guess there are some primitive tech one could take to evaporate drinking water maybe, and that sort of survival stuff, but basically they need to be able to live off the land for themselves.
The resident population would be writing letters to the newspapers concerning the spate of unwanted immigrants sucking away at their social programmes.
Prince Charles, he could be King at last!
Good question. We'd all need to learn new skills and to teach future generations, so most importantly our finest books on every practical subject.
If we had 1 giant ship ....do you think it would be allowed to get off the ground?
Or is the Earth not dying in this scenario?
For reading material, how about "Lord of the Flies"?
and harry potter

also anne mccaffrey pern series might be worth it....
This is a good question posted in a serious topic, so it would be nice if Sherminator could have a few more sensible answers to it.
