Why is it that when I park in an empty car park, I always return to find that the only other car that's arrived since is park RIGHT NEXT TO ME, surrounded by an empty car park ...... why?? Do people think their car might get lonely??

Same happened to us on an empty campsite in Ireland!
Makes sense - it leaves only one side at risk from the next careless parker, instead of both of them.
A pet hate of mine. Happened on Sunday am in a big Lidl carpark. Was tempted to ask the lady driver why she did it.
Lol, this always happens to me, I always try to park away from other cars as me people don't know how to open their doors properly.

Only makes sense if they are guarantee to be back at their car and gone before you are bert-h ...... but I like yout train of thought. There must be some learned individual out there who can apply some theory or psychology to this??
Cars are gregarious creatures!
Because you picked the best slot, and the second best slot was right next to you. Besides if someone came along looking to nick or break into a car, they'd take one look at yours and decide that's the one for them, leaving the other alone.
I sometime lose my car in a busy car park, I think we've all done it?
I keep finding it though.
It's not that bad, why won't somebody nick it !!?
I once parked in an empty motorway services car park, when I got back to my car another car was parked so close to the driver side door that I couldn't get in. I asked the driver to move, his response was 'f.. off you should have parked in the middle of your bay'. So I got in via the passenger door and just before I drove away in my old metro I smashed my (driver side) door into his nice new shiny metallic paint job. He just didn't think far enough ahead. I was gone!
The last Mr Craft was an excellent driver and could park in the smallest possible space....................show him an empty car park and he dithered about where to park.
Some people are tidy minded.?

Different I know..
But a similar thing in the cinema for me the other night..
Went to see a film, hardly anyone else in there, loads of empty seats..
A family of 4 comes and sits right next to us!...
What's all that about, I ask?! lol
looobylooo - been there - standard procedure is for missus to stand up and say in loud voice "Have you got another fit coming on?" - they move (not surprisingly)
lol ^^^
I may have to try that one if it ever happens again, Wharton
Do you park across two spaces? that's like a magnet to me!
Question Author
Absolutely not Mojo-jo ....... Always park sensibly within the space!
When I get to the supermarket before opening time I notice that most cars that come in don't park next to a car they leave a space.
Car Parks are not the only locations. Take your car to a desolate part of the countryside and soon you will have another car trying to make love to you.
i parked in an all but empty carpark today well away from anyone
five minutes in the supermarket to return to a dented driver doorand no one to be seen
Haha! That happens to us frequently too! I believe it's because humans inherently follow the pack mentality. Try standing on a busy city street and just look up (at nothing), and see how many people will stop and do the same thing, until there is a crowd of people looking up and not knowing why. Most people are like sheep and will do what feels most comfortable, which is follow.
