Hello! I need to have a source of education on how metals respond to torque, vibration, and weathering- also how structure will effect this. I'm entertaining the idea of a rather large project and need it to be as efficient as possible.

In order to help you with this, it would have been useful to know how learned the people who would read your project would be. For example, are we talking about a project to a first academic degree standard?

Despite the absence of this information, I can give you some pointers. The best reference works on metals are undoubtedly the ASM Handbooks.

You're only likely to find the complete set in print in major research libraries such as The British Library and The National Library of Wales etc. These are perfectly acceptable if you have the time to wade through the volumes by hand to find what you need.

However, they are also available online via the Knovel Library and you can search them by topic rather than wade through them all. . If you are at college or university, the library may subscribe to the ASM Handbooks via Knovel or they may not depending on the subscription level they find affordable.

It may well be worthwhile approaching your nearest university to see if they will allow you access to the Knovel Library in person at the library. The Knovel Library also has many other technical resources that would meet your needs.

Many academic libraries nowadays will allow you to do your research there as long as you can give them good reason to access their facilities. Give them a try!
