Can anyone explain the relationship between the Fibonacci Sequence and the naural world?

I've looked on the internet and there's plenty of information but it's written in ways i can't understand. I want to be able to explain it to my friend in a way that amazes them the way i was amazed when i was first told about it a long time ago.

While I have no claim to being a mathmatician, it is helpful to understand the relationship between the Fibonacci Sequence and the Golden Ratio.  I've found the attached web site relatively understandable... good luck!

The "Golden Ratio" or sometimes called "Golden Section" (1+(square root of 5)) divided by 2 is present in many naturally occurring designs and phenomena. The ratio is present in flower petals, musical sounds considered harmonious, combinations of colours seen as pleasing and many other places. By adding rectangles of Golden Section to others increasing in size following Fibonacci you can trace a curve forming a spiral known from ammonites to DNA. It is also a most pleasing and harmonious curve when applied to visual art. see http://tinyurl.com/cl3tv for a brief introduction.
