Just seen an advert for Littlewoods where some children are openly saying that their mothers bought their Christmas presents. Don't these businesses know anything, for f sake, it's Father Christmas who does it all (I will be so annoyed if my children see that advert).

Oh god, not that advert!! I've seen it on the TV, and heard it on the radio umpteen times. It really, really annoys me.

"My mums wicked"... cringe.

Are they really trying to ruin Christmas - only takes one child on the edge of believing to see it (my 7 year old is dubious - he sees that and he is going to know for sure).
D'you know what, I hadn't even thought of that! Good point.
My boy is ten, I'm not so sure what he thinks. I do keep telling him Father Christmas is watching, but he then starts asking how, when, why, where.
"I don't know... just watching. So behave!" He says his friend told him his Mum and Dad get the presents... so I told him he must be on the naughty list. Lol.
I'll probably still be saying it when he's twenty!! :D
You could try the 'half and half' approach. A young friend of mine proudly showed me the toys which Mummy had given him and the ones that Granny had given him AS WELL AS the ones which Father Christmas had left for him.
this is the final nail in the magic of christmas dont you think??? its all about the cold money-making face of comercialism...christmas just isnt the same and hasnt been for many a year...

They can carry on with their commercialism of Christmas - but don't tell the kids that the parents buy the presents (you only get about 5 or 6 Christmases where you really get it (and then stop believing)).
agree 100% sherrardk childhood is too shortlived without having the magic of santa claus snatched away by a tv advert...

what ARE you all talking about..santa comes to me every year !!
It occurred to me that Father Christmas wasn't real when I realised that if he was it meant my parents got me F all for Christmas.
You think kids are that naive?

In our house FC brought some prezzies in the night and put them in the sack at the end of your bed. Then in the morning you got the ones from your Mum and Dad that were under the tree and if the rellys were coming over you got theirs after lunch and everyone got a small tree prezzie after tea. Spread them out a bit so you got time to appreciate what you had and who had given them to you. My BIL used to really annoy me at Christmas because we had to give him the gifts for his girls so that he could put them in the sack from Father Christmas. So the kids think kindly Father Christmas brings them tons of stuff and mean old aunties and grannies etc give them nothing.
Ha, werid. At the very moment I clicked back on this Q that advert came on the TV.
