Should these tablets be taken if pain is not present - as a preventative, or should they just be taken to relieve pain when it is present?

Depending upon 'why' you are taking them.........I was told that the most 'efficient' way of ensuring that I was as pain-free as possible was to take the tablets at the stated intervals, regardless.

I am of the belief that pain is our bodies way of telling us that something is not right, so rather than mask it, it is preferable to put up with it as long as possible before taking preventative measures. But then what do I know.
Pain is of benefit to remind us there is a problem and not to do anything silly. It generally works well for species, as evolution indicates. But when an individual has the intellect to know there is a problem and is doing their best to fix it, pain can prove too blunt an aid, and may even hinder best action.

As for the original question, dunno, but my advise is to follow doctor's instructions.
