I am out for the day today, and off any moment, so forgive my earliness in starting this off.
I just hope that my link words are correct as I've completed the crossword with those squares in !!
If the answers are wrong then tough luck on me !

shamrock I agree but as I was going to work at 9am and you had not started the thread I knew I would be home after 4 when all the obvious guesses would have gone through. Us early risers should not be penalised.

I apreciate the dilemma.
It's normally difficult for me to start the thread much before 10 am.

That's a workable solution ShamrockBlue. If you could then open the site containing the four words and e-mail the"early birds" at the same time, I could fold them into proceedings in a fair way! Or is there better solution?

Ah yes they could email me on Saturday morning, no I hadn't thought of that.
My idea was to have a rota of say 4 people who are around early to take turns in starting the thread..
I'm not sure which is best, we'll have a think and sort it out anyway.
I don't feel it's necessary for me to sort of head the comp , as it belongs to AB'ers now.
I'm basically just very pleased that people are enjoying it, and it can only improve with the new scoring elements.

What if the thread is started on the puzzle site under the heading ShamrockBlue's Herculis challenge...or something similar, by the first person ready to start that day?

Maybe you could post the thread the night before? You don't need to give the the link words. Most people can work those out for themselves. As long as the link is there people can then post in one place. What do you think?

Hi Pauline and Jim Jools,
I'm glad you people are thinking, because my brain ( such as it is ) has just about seized up.
Your ideas sound pretty good to me.
I'm not worried about having my name attached at all.
Main concern is that it schould be accessible to as many people as want to enter.

Even more major concern though is that I should go to bed !
