Childrens TV program 1980's

I'm trying to find the name of a kids tv series from the 1980's, I think it was called
"The Grimiog" I think it was shown on ITV originally & then later repeated on SKY (the childrens channel)
It was the story of some sort of evil statue, & I remember it falling off a lorry at the
Beginning of the series & being picked up by someones grandad who cements it
Into his garden, like a ornament.
The intro was the pages of a book with pen sketches of witches, I think, no one
Remembers this & I can't find any reference to it on the web,
Anyone remember it or know what it's called?
