I managed to persuade a pal to come to see the new Brighton Rock.

It's really good.

A bit depressing.

And the bit with the "vitriol" ... eeuuwww!

And at the end, with the record ... OMG, OMG ...

... I won't spoil it for you, but ... when she puts the record on ... Aaaaaaaggghhhh !!!!!

I want to see Brighton Rock JJ - imdb rating wasn't particulary high the last time I looked (6.1), so it's nice to read this personal review from you. I can imagine we have similar tastes in films - so this has made my mind up to go and see it. Thanks.
JJ

Have you seen the original version? If you have how does the new one compare?

It's quite gritty, Sals ...

And the settings are very "underworld" ... scruffy basement flats, tower block in the arse end of the outskirts of town ...

... but it's VERY "Graham Greene" ... it gets the atmosphere of a Greene novel to a tee.

And it's updated. They've set it in the mods and rockers era, and they've done that quite cleverly.

But, without spoiling it, the bit with the vinyl record, you'll go ... "Awwww, No!!!"

And don't forget the popcorn !!!
I'm intruiged now.....

It's actually more true to the atmosphere of Greene than the original, which was made when movie accents were all a bit "stiff upper lip" - even when they tried to be gangsters.
Question Author
Actors always used to sound like BBC Radio presenters.

And actors with gangster accents sounded like BBC Radio presenters trying to put on gangster accents.
I'm guessing the ending is more true to the novel's ending than the original film? I did it for o'level, - read the book and saw the film, so have a vague recollection of it all.
Question Author
I won't tell you anything about the ending.
(I've had to go and look up a 'spoiler'......) Soz :-(
Wish I hadn't now.....!
Question Author
Oh no, Sals ... you haven't !!
... couldn't resist it. I am very impatient. I'll still go and see the film though :-)
Question Author
It made me cry.

I was trying not to. I did that thing where you walk out, concentrating hard, staring upwards, and thinking "Don't talk to me, or my eyes will start watering."
I felt like that coming out of Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. And, more worrying and embarrassing, My Sister's Keeper.
