Hi guys, the winner for 'Hen-coops' was

Ponchos work in E wind in place of layers

Can somebody clarify what the context of the clue is all about? Which 'wind' is it?

(I can see the anagram and the SINGULAR hint from place of layers!)

Tenuous? Or am I missing something?

Regards,
Ade.

It is a bit tenuous. I assume the writer is indicating the difference in wind resistance between a poncho and several layers of clothing.

Cheers scotman, I see the concept now - perhaps the E was east (but better just use 'east' if it works so well?)
A bit tenuous indeed though, I still don't like the singular/plural bit - unless you consider hen-coops = 'a battery', say = one place.
Anyway, we have no frame of reference as to the other entries, so fair play.
Mine never came to fruition btw and involved egg and spoon races, places where eggs are dropped. Should never see the light of day!
(But I did win one once!)
