I found this puzzle extremely difficult. Could someone please start me off with the answer to 1 & 23 across. The clue is 'Don's toast due, having no quarrel with Ode to Skylark.' Four words 3,5,3 and 4. Perhaps with this start I might be able to suss out the connecting clues. Thanks.

It's an anag of 'due + no quarrel + ode'

It points you in the dirrection of the don that you are looking for.

Thank you both for your time and help. One of the links you sent me too also said that this Toughie was particularly hard, so I don't feel quite so 'twp' ( a useful Welsh word for when one's brain is not engaged)
