What name, derived from Greek meaning beaten metal lizard is applied to a large marine reptile with paddle-like limbs and tough skin? Extinct, but could have survived as the Loch Ness monster.

Have got a couple of answers for this but not sure what to go with. Thanks

plesiosaur
The answer I've got is Elasmosaurus.
Ive also got Elasmosaurus - as it seems to fit the clue better than plesiosaur..

Plesiosaur is derived from Near Lizard, whereas Elasmosaurus is plated lizard ? Thats what were going for anyway,

Thanks for your help, I had elasmosaur, elasmosaurus and then found elasmosaurus platyurus but I think elasmosaurus fits the bill.
Elasmos is Greek for "beaten metal" so I would go for elasmosaurus.
