11a basic old clothing stays up, the back of it anyway. ?T??LE. is it stable or staple and if so why? any help please, late starter today

I have put staple because that means basic.
How he arrives at this from the clue is
probably known only to the compiler's
warped mind. Most of the clues in this
crossword are now so pathetic I usually
don't bother trying to finish it.

Thanks Baitress, I agree with your comments about the clues, I very rarely finish it
either, even when you see the answers given in AB I can't match them up with the clues, it used to be a really good crossword a year or so back but now it is a chore that you have to do. I like the barebones one and of course Mail & Express general knowledge ones. thanks for your help.
