we organised a race night and drew up names for the horses and riders for the race card and used batty book titles and authors, they seemed to work well.

ttfn... Your suggestion of ' gone with the wind ' makes me recall a horse which was named 'Hoof-hearted'.

ttfn....Talking about fast talking commentators..there is the classic from Brian Johnson who wanted radio listeners who had just 'tuned-in' to know the up-to-date position in a test match and said " The bowler's Holding, the batsman's Willie.

Having given further thought to your question, I guess you could name a horse; Radish or Chestnut. Also, Box; Shoo; etc.

However, as a Donkey Derby is involved, you really need ordinary Ass names, such as Jack.
