Dear All,

Welcome to the Title Builder Beta.

Click on the little question mark next to "Title Builder Beta" for more details.

It will hopefully allow you to build "better" titles for you quizzes. By "better" we mean they should be easier to find for searchers, which hopefully means we get some more brains round the table!

Let us know what you think, and if you want your quiz added, let us know.

Here are some Quizzes on sale at the moment:

Saturday Times - Jumbo is the title of both a cryptic and a quick crossword (they both share the same grid).

And doesn't the Times on a weekday deserve to be included? It has a cryptic (occasionally gets asked) and a quick (don't think I've ever seen it asked).
*should add that for the Jumbo the answers are different for the 2 crosswords even though it's the same grid.
Ok I will be the first to ask a silly question, where is the title builder located and where is the question mark?
they appear when you try posting a question in Q&P
and crosswords too (just tried it)
Gotcha! thanks bibblebub
And then it would be good if those who asked for help used these titles and not local quiz etc

Could you add this one too please Spare Ed?Thanks Polly

Dear All,

I have added a couple of papers and quizzes in - let me know what I have missed.

Good luck with this Ed- we definitely need something to help new Q&P posters set out questions properly and not cram everything into the title box. Let's hope they also remember to include details of number of letters
Just a couple of suggestions to try to reduce the built title length (because it can be a bit long at present):

1) a few abbreviations in the publication title e.g. Sat, Sun, D (for daily), and don't bother with the word THE for Mail On Sun.

2) a shorter version of publication date e.g. Wed 26/05/10 instead of Wednesday May 26th 2010 - at least abbreviate the day names to their 3-letter equivalents.
I can't see the Daily Telegraph on there............they have cryptics during the week as well as the quick crossword and a Giant GK on Saturday - Oh and a Toughie also.
No offence and well done for trying to bring some order but if people are asking questions like "what is 12 down" without giving the name of the puzzle or the clue, they are not going to fill in the "title builder".
I think it will make searching much easier but Squarebear has a good point. There will still be those who have a title of "Last one" (irrelevant) "I am stuck" (obviously) or even "Crossword" (Surprise, surprise). It would be good if all the crossword questions appeared in the sub section "Crosswords" as opposed to the heading "Quizzes & Puzzles" but that is probably asking too much.
Another problem is people putting all the clue details in the question title and leaving the details box empty, sometimes several clues all crammed together - there have been a few in just the last hour or so.

Please take the opportunity given by making the changes that you are doing for Q&P and crosswords to consider trying to force people to use the question details box - if there is no text in the details box then disable the submit button or give an error message when it is clicked, or whatever else you may come up with - but please do something about it.
I agree with bibblebub's post directly above this one!
I have made this suggestion several times over the last few months to the AB Editor- and suggested moving the SUBMIT button from next to the title box to after the Question Details box- but so far unfortunately I've had no response. It's mainly a problem on Q&P where crossword clues are difficult to follow
I asked for this to be done ages ago, it almost imposible to read the question sometimes.
Looks like most of us have asked for it before. Since changes are currently taking place for real, now would be a good time to introduce some mechanism to achieve the desired result.
Just a thought, but a good start to sorting out titles might be to amend "Quizes" to "Quizzes"...
