Hi! Would anyone be able to help with my last answer in the Tablet crossword 203 please? I've looked everywhere without success. The clue is 13d "A canopy used in a basilica procession or the covering of a tabernacle with door-opening (8)".
I have C_N_P_U_ which seem to be correct, but can't find anything to fit. Thanks.

ciborium? is the only word I can find for canopy
My answer's wrong
I can only find palanquin or chuppah, neither of which are right in the religious context.
Are you letters correct?
Canopium?
not in dictionary.com sandy....
... canapium, canopium, properly conopeum, a mosquito-net, a tent, pavilion, from Greek κωνωπεῖον , κωνωπεών , an Egyptian bed with mosquito-curtains, ...

I think sandyRoe is right ..this is a reference to the tabernacle covering with slightly different spelling CANOPEUM

Thanks for all the replies. Canopium/canopeum seem to be the likeliest but as a Roman Catholic I am ashamed to say that I have never heard of it before.
One lives and learns..... (another good Scrabble word too!)
I'm sure that sandyRoe and slaney between them have it, but the only other word I can track down for a canopy over an altar is baldachin (alt sps: baldaquin/baldacchino). My Shorter OED has no mention of canopium or the other spellings of it.
