The Merriam-Webster on-line dictionary gives two meanings.  The first is the verb, the one you know.  Here's the second:

Function: noun
: a device (as a plate, wall, or screen) to deflect, check, or regulate flow (as of a fluid, light, or sound)
- baffled  /'ba-f&ld/ adjective

Thanks Ewood27. Doesn't 'stop the progress of' mean what you put, ie check or regulate flow. Or is it two different things?
There are baffles in some motor engine silencers, to bounce the sound around inside until it reduces to an acceptable level.  There are also baffles in aircraft fuel tanks to stop the fuel slopping around too much when the aircraft hits turbulence etc  They're like little walls the fuel keeps hitting, so it can't develop any momentum.  So yes, they are basically the same thing.  Does that help?
sleeping bags also have a baffle (it is the bit that tightens up around your neck)

type in the box (ignoring the  quotation marks)"define: baffle"

(don't forget the space between : and baffle)

type in the box..ignoring  my quotation marks...

"define: baffle"

(remember to leave a space between the : and the word baffle)
