Please can anyone give me a HINT on how to solve this question - which may or maynot have something to do with the names being in CAPITAL letters??

ANNE has one child, JOANNA has three children, JOYCE has four children, JUNE and MILLICENT each have five children. LOGICALLY, how many children do AMANDA and LULU have between them?

Please note - I do not want anyone to tell me the answer, I am just looking for a HINT.

Logically how many children would two women have between them?
I've always wondered how to these too - i hope someone can enlighten us :)
This first part of the question is irrelevant. Ask yourself how many children two women could produce between them.
I'm not convinced you're on the right track another-view. I've never read these as 'trick' questions. My friend and I have 4 children between us.
With no man involved? Interesting.
That is interesting Mr View .......................... but surely this is something other than just a play on words?
another-view a play on words is funny once, now just plain annoying.
I've given up!
tried to put a numerical value to vowels and consonants but coming up with zilch :(
If you've come up with zilch, you have the right answer.
Got it - albaqwerty you were on the right lines, did you start values with 0?

Oh and the answer is not zilch!

How did you do last time with the soldiers freddiew?

Total disaster!! Had at least three answers and went for the very obvious, which I should have know would be TOO obvious - knew there would be a catch, and tried to work it out myself but got an answer something liike 10.23 miles, but did not think it would be down to decimal places - how wrong could I be!
Bad Luck, but I got easy peasy wrong. I put GM Brands instead of Diego?
A quizzing friend had directed me to a 'chestnuts' site which had less soldiers marching so I multiplied that answer by 4 and hoped for the best.
Thanks to you I've finished the logic. I was barking up the right tree because I remembered the Bournemouth one from ages ago but hadn't started it yet.
Everyone will have got it now!

Well I put Diego, but he has marked it wrong for some reason?? Good luck with this one.(If Postman Pat lets us enter!)
I'm sure it said Diego on the answer sheet.
Last month he marked one of mine wrong - dehorn- and I sent 4 dictionary definitions by return but he ignored me. Poll - ugh - as in referees.
Am thinking of taking up knitting!
ANNE ( First vowel A plus the second vowel E) 1+2 = 3 minus number of vowels (2) = One child
JOANNA (Fourth vowel O + A + A) 4 + 1 + 1 = 6 minus three vowels = Three children

Hence AMANDA 3 - 3 = none
LULU = Eight (Fifth vowel U 5 + 5 = 10 minus two vowels = eight) so between them they have eight children.

This must be the logic. Please clarify

Well I only asked for a HINT detective - If you think this is the answer, why go into so much detail and then ask for clarification??
I still haven't a clue but now we've been given an extra fortnight, I might work it out or guess! I don't know how I got into Mensa. The Exam was nothing like this!
I passed the Mensa test too when I was 15 Tallulah. I went to meetings for a few years until they introduced a fee, so I stopped going.
