Sore throat after long flight
I suffer from awful sore throats after flying, due to the awful re-cycled air.
Can anyone recommend anything I could take to try and avoid this?
Would just lozenges help or perhaps someone knows of something else.

Your sore throat is the result of the air dryers in the pressurization systems on jet liners. Fresh air is continously introduced into the cabin and is not totally "re-cycled" as most believe.
Without the de-humidifiers in the system, condensation would drip form just aobut everywhere inside the aircraft. Therefore, almost all of us pilots carry a simple, small bottle of saline solution to squirt into the nasal passages often throughout the flights duration. The brand I use, here in the U.S., is appropriately named "Oceans". Quite inexpensive and can be used as often as you feel the need since it contains no medication. I'd recommend at least twice per hour.
This will have the side benefit of helping eliminate sinus infections, which is where your sore throat originates anyway...

Clanad probably has the best solution to the situation but there are other things that help also. Try chewable vitamin C in large doses (3 ro4) a couple of days before you fly. There is also the product Airborne which is a tablet you dissolve in water and take 2 hours before you fly. If you are really bothered by this, I would take oll of these products. There is nothing in any of them to hurt you.
