I think I would, because at this moment in time, I haven't a clue who I would vote for in a GE,
They were all in it up to their neck with the Expenses,
GB is very weak and takes forever to come out and make a statement as in Lockerbie!
David Cameron comes over as the old Etonian, which he is of cause, and I think to get the country out of the enormous debt, everyone would suffer but predominatley the pensioners, I thing he will stop the Winter fuel payment and also the free travel, which admitingly has been abused!
Nick Clegg??? I can't say I have heard much of what his party would do in power and I would be interested to hear, but I would say , putting Vince Cable up on that stage would work a lot better for the Liberals
I want someone to tell me, 'Look this is going to have to happen' whoever gets in, we will suffer greatly because of a certain Chancellors o.t.t borrowing

The problem with a televised debate like this is, it only shows you who is a good performer on TV, and not who has the best policies or will make the best ruling party.

Brown has always suffered because of his dour image, and his patent lack of communication skills. Cameron comes over as too 'posh' - the best communicator in the House in my view is William Hague - a man who was given the chance too early, and who should seriously think about taking over the Tory Party again.

Andy...I agree with your comments entirely, but, in my opinion, debate or no debate, the electorate has made up it's mind that it wants a change of Government and that to me, is the bottom line here.
I will not rest until Vince Cable is Prime Minister!!! I also now have a lot off respect for William Hague.

Question Author
I agree with you andy about William Hague, too much , too soon.
Surely the one who gives the best performance would be the most charesmatic, therfore, be ablt to deliver a speech/manifesto that at least sounds plausible.
A change sqad...yes, but do you think pensioners would lose out with a Tory Goverment, I say Tory because as yet, the Liberals have broken through to be a main contender, Lofty, VC for PM, we could do a helluva lot worse!
Question Author
sorry that shoud have read 'haven't broken through'
Joy, why would the pensioners do worse under the Conservatives than under Labour?
We are exactly *not* sufferring now because of GB's borrowing.

That money hasn't been put on a huge bonfire it's gone into the economy, bringing forward capital projects and supporting the financial sector.

Without it the economy would have totally collapsed as would the banks, foreclosing on businesses and mortgages.

This spending is exactly what every other major country has done - be very glad Ozzy wasn't at number 11 without this public spending many of us here wouldn't have jobs or houses.

And I think most of us know who we'll vote for.

Apart from me - being in the speakers constituancy leaves me with the choice of him or UKIP.

I never thought I'd see the day that I'd vote Tory but because of that constitutional irony it looks like it might just happen.
> I haven't a clue who I would vote for in a GE,

Basically , if you want a party that is not too far to the left, or too far to the right, but it dead centre in politics, you can vote for either:

Liberal Democrats, Conservatives or Labour.
Question Author
Well thank VHG for those wonderful pearls of wisdom, so my options are one of those three???
What about the Sarcastic Party? you could head that one LOL
Sqad someone has to pay the piper and I don't think Labour has a snowball in hells chance of getting in, good point jpg, thank you
You're right Bobbiesox - but the ability to deilver a speech in a way that wins an audience is no guarentee that the manifesto being delivered is either honourable, or even desireable - Adolph Hitler illustrates my point perfectly - wonderful orator, the people on his side, promised an end to all their problems ... lost it a bit at the actual implementation stage!
Question Author
point taken andy, although lets hope we don't go down that road eh?
when I said I wouldn't know who to vote for, I haven't heard anything from anyone the floats my boat!
Usual lefty bigoted drivel from Jake I see.

to answer the question, no I dont believe anything is gained by televised debates.

Just because someone is a good orator does not make them a good leader. Take Hitler for example, could have people eating off his hands, but a good leader? (ok some would say so perhaps)
Well, one can have the best Policies (or worst) for your electorate, but if you do not get elected, there is nothing that you can do about it.

If a TV debate can get you elected, then that is an asset not to be dismissed.

It seems that we are one of the few countries that do not have such a debate.
Question Author
I certainly wouldn't like the razzmatazz American style, but I would like to hear of something concrete that will be done /or not
JOY......c'mon.....what they say and what they do may be two completely differing policies.
Question Author
yes sqad but either way, we have to have a Goverment so I would lke to hear of some things they may 'promise'
instead of hot air, all they do is oppose the other parties yet don't even try to have an alternative
Joy....don't worry, you will have plenty of promises to chew over.
Question Author
i you I'm not that guillable to believe in any of their crap, just wouldn't mind seeingthem televised, actually it was quite funny 'David Cameron has agreed,,,,
Nick Clegg has agreed....
do you know if Mr Suave has?
Downing Street haven't replied.

Would you like my guess? GB won't agree. He will say that Prime Minister's Question time on a Wednesday, should suffice. The problem with that, is that PMQ's is orchestrated and when the campaign starts, PMQ's ceases.
Question Author
Guess I will just have to get on with more important matters like, looking for 40s retro clothes to wear for my girlie weekend to York
Yep! Lifes a bitch!!!
