Not sure what the name is... but you know the filter socket thing that you use when you get broadband.. and there is one hole for the phone to plug into and another for the modem... Well I need one of these that has TWO holes for the modem cable... WHat is it and where can I get it from?

Microfilters (DSL/ADSL filters).

Are you saying that you want 2 modems connected to the same phone line?
You want an ADSL filter, though I've never heard of one with 2 modem holes. I've had a quick look on google and it would appear all makes have one phone hole and one modem hole. You will probably need to go to a specialist electronics or computer (not PC World!) shop. If you need to set up 2 PC's, consider investing in a router (or your ISP may provide you with one free if you make out you want to leave them! Thats how we got ours from AOL!)

well I have one telephone cable.. then one modem.. then a barcode scanner for some market research I do that has a modem cable.
They told me to plug my phone into the socket thing they provided but I think it is broken as phone stops working when plugged into it.
So instead of plugging extensions into extensions I thought it best to plug the phone into the filter and then the two modem cables into the same filter...
I'm just not sure its safe to be plugging filters into other filters etc

Is it ok to have...
the filter plugged into the wall
the modem plugged into the filter
then... the phone plus other modem cable for the scanner thing plugged into an extension socket plugged into the filter??

Am I making sense??
OH eck!

the smaller socket on the filter is for ADSL modems only, it will not work if you plug anything else into that socket.

if your bar code scanner has a modem (?) in it then it will not be an ADSL modem, it will be an old style modem. that will need to be plugged into the phone socket on the filter (NOT the ADSL socket)

not sure I am grasping this.. the barcode scanner device has a cable attached to it (other than the power lead) and the end of the cable is exactly the same as a modem cable end...

They provided me with a white plastic 'splitter thing' (not a filter!) into which plugs the phone cable and this modem-looking cable.... but the phone stops working when plugged into this white plastic thing.. so am guessing its faulty!!!

Nightmare.. I hate electronics!!!
so get back to the scanner people for advice - you'd guess they know how it's done
