As a number of you are already aware, a new scoring system has been put forward for the players, particularly in view of the fact that not everyone has access to the online version of the Crossword and the early starting time does not provide a level playing field for each entry.

The Eccles Treaty was proposed during the course of Saturday's game and the scoring would be as follows -

No bonus points will be awarded however
I correct answer - 1 point
2 " " - 2 points
3 " " - 4 points
4 " " - 6 points

Later in the day the Hewit Amendment was put forward - this was along the same lines, but with a slight difference -

1 correct answer - 1 point
2 " - 3 points
3 " - 6 points
4 " - 10 points

Personally I commend both schemes but with apologies to eccles I would go for the second option on the basis of the more you get right, the more points you get.

Any comments would be welcome - if most are in favour then we could bring it into play with the start of the new month's contest.

Ok I'll leave you all with it and shall turn in for the night S

with no time limits i may as well post the words as soon after 12 as possible and cuddle up to jess.
As one who likes my bed too much I seldom (if ever) qualify for bonus points based on the two minute rule, so support the proposed changes, and out of the two proposals the Hewit Amendment seems the better option by rewarding the entrants who may get a full-house, or near-miss.
I also support the proposed changes, particularly that of the Hewitt Amendment ( I'd love that extra point any time I ever get more than 1 correct answer!). I'm dependent on the vagaries of the weather which affects the time of arrival of the "paper" plane.
hewit amendment for me
I would go with Hewit Admentment. I rarely get bonus points and don't normally get out of my pit until 8.00ish.
Someone did make a point that the late starters have the benefit of the early bird ideas, but there has got to be a bit of give and take.
Hewitt amendment for me too.
Yes - I think that the Hewitt Amendment seems to be the fairest.
Go for it !!
-- answer removed --
Being a 'night owl' but early riser during the week, I tend to get a lie in at weekends, therefore the Hewit Amendment is the one I would go for. The later entries do not get an advantage as the popular link words are usually already taken leaving only obscure links if one wants to be unique.
As with all the other posts, I am for the "Hewatt amendment". I rarely get any points, let alone bonus points, but I think that the more answers that are correct deserve more points. It's a great idea, as I said yesterday, what a wonderful democratic way to hopefully change the rules for the better.
Now, what else can we solve, ..........the financial crisis,.... binge drinking, ......Englands football prospects.!!!!!!!!!
Hope that it doesn't make too much extra work for you Steff.
Thanks everybody and good luck.
Hewit Amendment for me please. It would be great if it started next week as I am going to the States to visit my sister and I can never get my head round the time difference!
x-ray you think Englands got problems.....what about Scotland big revamp required there
