I think Alder. Can't dismiss Elder, of course. Any views on whether 58ac is Octet or Octad, and 54d Dither or Dodder?

I have gone for the opposite as I think dodder is better than dither for 'slow and unsteady'.

Too many uncertainties here for my liking. Alder/Elder, Octet/Octad, Dither/Dodder, Defer/Deter, and probably a couple more. I've gone for the first-named, but my confidence is ebbing away, particularly on Octet/Dither, Dither fits for unsteady meaning indecisive, but it is a slight stretch. I'll have tippexed it several times before I send it.
