Hi everyone!
I really hope someone can help here.I am totally undecided about whether or not to go for the following offer. At the moment I have Norton installed on my PC, and I wondered if this was enough to protect my PC.

I had an email through sometime ago giving me an offer about McAfee. It read that I could have the latest McAfee Virus Scan Plus 2009 for just $19.99 instead of the regular price of $39.99 (a saving of 50%).
The offer expires on 31st December 2008,and it's for a one year subscription, and my guess is that after that time it will resort to the original price, probably.

So,is it worth going for the offer or not? As I have said,I already have Norton.

Also, is it worth upgrading to Flash Player 10?

Thanks for any advice at all.
:-)

You should never have two antivirus programs (or two firewalls) running on your computer simultaneously, as this can lead to serious system conflicts.

There are two security suites which are generally reviled by the majority of the 'regulars' here in AB's Technology section. The first is Norton. The second is McAfee. Both will do the jobs required of them but (because they're both 'resource hungry') only at the cost of slowing down your PC (and at unnecessary expense to your wallet).

Most people around here would suggest that you should ditch Norton as soon as possible. You can't uninstall it in the conventional way; you need this special tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo .nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Then, if you insist on paying out good money for security software, the most popular full commercial product (among those who do a bit of research, rather than using whatever happens to come with their computer) is probably Kaspersky.

However, most of us don't spend any money on security software. We simply install the three essential elements (entirely free of charge) separately. The means using either AVG Free Edition or Avast! for ant-virus protection, Zone Alarm Free or Comodo as your firewall and as many 'run on demand' anti-spyware programs as you like (such as the free versions of AdAware or SpyBot Search & Destroy).

Most Flash-based sites will run perfectly happily under older versions of Flash player. However, as long as you don't experience any problems with the installation (which occasionally happens) I can't think of any reason why you shouldn't upgrade to version 10.

Many many thanks for the advice Chris!

So you would opt for ditching Norton eh?
Well,I have recently subcribed for another year with Norton,so I will heed your advice and ignore the McAfee offer then.

As I don't seem to have any problems with the Flash Player I have already got, I think I might not install the latest version as yet.Maybe some other time!
I have given you max stars for your help! Thanks again.

it seems there is nothing wrong with the 2009 offering from norton - all the mags seem to be giving it extremely good reviews ...

It's true norton fell apart in the 2006 version .... the 07 was as bad
the 08 showed a small improvement ... but the 09 version is the dog's b .......

no one has ever disputed that norton does the job ... it's just been how long it takes to do it

see this ... it might make you feel better
