A standard Rubik's Cube has nine squares showing at any one time on each of its six faces which would make 54.
novalis is right there are 54 faces but i think i know where this is going with doogied , it's how many you percieve there are like 4 squares together make up another square and so on and also the whole faces on each side make up a big square . but don't make the mistake that each of the small cubes have square faces . if you were to take one apart (i have) the corners on the inside of the small cubes have the corners cut off so i would not say they have a square face . phew!! if you know what i mean

Thanks, novalis and brian j john. I did think it was 54, but then I wondered if they meant the 27 little dice like cubes that make up the actual Rubik cube? maybe I'm looking too much into it.
