It was not my intention to 'dangle a carrot on a stick' merely to give encouragement to Frank23 that the answer is 'out there'. I and a lot of other people do this postal quiz, and I thought it fairer to other contestants who have also managed to get the correct answer, not to give a direct answer on Answerbank - especially when the quiz has several weeks to go before the closing date. I derive a great deal of pleasure in pitting my wits against our questionmaster, but don't particularly want to be told an answer if stuck. Perhaps it would have been better to have put this question in the Quizzes and Puzzle sections, so that repliers know that they are responding to a quiz. As I said in my original post, I was prepared to give more hints if need be . So - he was born in the late 1880's - his first two names have a link with Princess Diana.
